  • Reflecting on Challenges

A big part of any challenge is how we approach it in our cognition. Typically there are past experiences, fear of failure, internal voices etc. that can run quite deep. Also if you don’t happen to have someone nearby to talk to (say, when working remotely), it may be difficult to get a grasp of your own thinking concerning the challenge.

Here’s a reflection template that you can use and tweak to your own liking. I suggest that you create a snippet out of it (e.g. using Beeftext) so it’s easy to start reflecting in your daily journal.

    # Challenge Reflection (15 min)
    Date and time

    ## My challenge is that...

    ## What's important in the challenge is that...

    ## What's less important:

    ## My emotional state now regarding the challenge (1-5, 5=most positive):
    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    ## My energy levels now regarding the challenge (1-5, 5=highest):
    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    ## What is true after I have solved the challenge?
    1.
    2.
    3.

    ## How can I make use of the experience I gain?

    ## Visualization exercise (3-5 min)
    * What are the next steps I will take?
    * When will I take them?
    * Who can help me?
    * How will I feel after I have solved the challenge?

Review your ‘challenge notes’ at least weekly and make a new reflection. There is high probability that you will start to see patterns emerging that will create room for creative thinking and get you moving forward.
